Almost Advent

Tidings of Comfort and Joy!

An Advent Concert by

Ilace Mears and David Wilson

Sunday, December 8, 6:00 p.m.

Trinity/Brentwood Sanctuary

Beloved tunes of the season, featuring hammered and mountain dulcimers, fiddle, and mandolin - and more! In the midst of busy-ness, this is an opportunity to breathe and reflect on the peace and joy at the center of our celebration. Our gift to the community; ALL are welcome! Live-stream available.

Screen Time?

Our wonderful AV team would like to request that if you ever need anything put on the screens for any service that is held at Trinity, please let us know in advance so we can load things into the program properly. Sometimes it is very hard to load things moments before an event. Thank you for this consideration.

Lost and Found

Wondering where your pen, mug, charger, book, hat, sunglasses, or other elusive item is? Items turned into the church office will be placed in our new Lost & Found tubs, located on the shelf above the accessibility devices near the West entrance.

New Office Volunteer Sign-ups are Available

Can you give three hours a month to help Trinity be a more welcoming place? We are looking for some friendly folks to help staff our volunteer Welcome Desk during the week. Volunteer shifts are usually 9:00 a.m. to Noon or Noon to 3:00 p.m. You do not need to be tech-savvy to volunteer.

The primary responsibilities are to answer the main Trinity and Brentwood phones and assist callers with grace; assist with basic office tasks, such as folding and stuffing bulletins or mailings; and – most importantly – to be a friendly, welcoming face for anyone who comes to our doors.

You can sign up for one shift a week, one shift a month or anything in between. There are available dates through Nov. 4, with more dates added each week. To sign up, simply follow the link below, choose an open time slot(s), and enter your name, email, and phone number. There is no login or password needed. SIGN UP HERE.

Thank you in advance for helping make Trinity a more welcoming place!

Upcoming Pulpit Supply

With grateful hearts, we should all feel the joy that we at Trinity have in our church family. What resources we each have and we can ALL share our gifts with each other! The Worship and Music committee is grateful for those who have helped in “filling our pulpit” at this time of change until a Transitional Pastor is called to serve with us here at Trinity.

  • Nov 3  Jane Huffstetler

  • Nov 10 Robert Reed

  • Nov 17 Howard Cavner

  • Nov 24 Bill Havens

Wiggle Room

Everyone is welcome in the sanctuary. If you have a fussy child and would like to step out while continuing to participate in worship, please feel free to make use of our new Wiggle Room in Room 14. The room is outfitted with comfortable chairs, a changing table, a small bathroom, and a new (to us) television mounted on the wall, showing the livestream. Please note that children in the Wiggle Room must be accompanied by a grownup who brought them. Children three-and-under can be dropped off in the Nursery in Room 12.

Volunteer for as many or as few Sundays as you like. Please contact Kristin Butler.

Living Waters for the World training at Clean Water U

Mike and Jeanne Simpson, members of Trinity Presbyterian in Springfield, recently completed training at Clean Water U in Johnsonburg, New Jersey. This training course, held in September, was sponsored by Living Waters for the World, an organization that is dedicated to helping provide clean water around the world. Mike and Jeanne had joined the John Calvin Presbytery Living Waters for the World team in February 2024 on a trip to the Dominican Republic. The team of six installed a water filtration system at an elementary school. Mike and Jeanne learned so much on that trip, and were excited about learning more by getting the training necessary to continue the work in the future. Mike’s training focused on education, teaching the local population about the importance of clean water, and how it can improve health and quality of life. Jeanne’s training focused on the installation of the system, learning how to work with the in-country operators who will continue to use the system after the team has gone home. Both jobs are important in ensuring the systems run well and are used to their full potential.

The next trip for the team is in February 2025, returning to the Dominican Republic. If you are interested in joining the group for an installation, contact Mike or Jeanne. Individuals who want to donate, may mail contributions to JCLWM c/o 2855 S. Versailles Ave. Springfield, MO 65804.

Advent Study Begins December 1

Join our class for the Advent study: Words for the Beginning from A Sanctified Art.

"Advent is a season of endings and beginnings. As the calendar year comes to a close, a new church year begins. Christ’s birth ushers us into new ways of living and loving; and yet, the world as we know it spins madly on. When we ourselves navigate seasons filled with endings and beginnings, we need reminders. We need words that can feel like steady ground, like a path for our feet to find as we step forward into the unknown." (from A Sanctified Art site)

Words for the Beginning materials will also be included in worship for Advent. A booklet will be available from the church office prior to December 1.

Contact Amy Price if you have any questions

Topical Discussions Fellowship: Topical Discussion Fellowship meets each Sunday, 10:15 to 11:15, in Fellowship Hall, with coffee, treats, Christian education, discussion, and fellowship.

You are welcome and encouraged to take part in this enjoyable Fellowship of friends! Our current study and discussion is from Pastor Adam Hamilton’s book and DVD titled Wrestling with Doubt and Finding Faith.

Pastor Hamilton reminds us that doubt is not the enemy of faith. Rather, our faith can strengthen when we are open to discussing and exploring our questions. If you have wondered: Is there a God, How to Understand the Bible, What is Heaven and Hell, When Prayers Seem Unanswered, and Why do the Innocent Suffer, then we encourage you to join our Fellowship as we discuss Pastor Hamilton’s teaching along with our own ideas.

If you cannot attend in person, please join us by Zoom:
