Trinity Newsletter for February 16, 2023 (Copy)

From Pastor Chris

Yesterday marked the beginning of Lent, the 40-day season of preparation during which we walk with Christ toward Jerusalem, the cross, and eventually the empty tomb. If you are like me, one of the first things you think about with Lent is the idea of giving something up; maybe it's chocolate or soda or even social media. The reason Christians have traditionally observed some kind of fasting during lent is the goal of making space for the movement of God in our lives.

I think the goal of making space for God in our lives is always a good one (I am personally going to be working to spend less time on social media!), but this Lent I would also encourage you to not just give something up, but to take something on. I am encouraging every member of the Trinity family to take time every day for prayer and reflection. What that looks like for each of us will be different, but if you want a place to start, I have pulled together three different devotional resources for your use.

Tap here to view all three of our devotional resources for Lent. Each of these can be downloaded and saved to your device. You can print them for easier reading if you wish. If you have trouble accessing our devotionals electronically, please contact the office and we will be happy to print a copy for you.

Each of these devotionals has a different style and approach. The devotional from The Presbyterian Outlook is a traditional daily devotional, with readings and prayers for every day between now and Easter. The Lent Journal from Every Moment Holy is more open ended with a weekly structure. The guide from the Vital Congregations Initiative includes reflections and favorite recipes from a variety of church leaders around the country. I hope you will take time to look at each of these resources as we all grow closer to God and to one another during this holy season.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Chris

Adult Class offerings:

Studying the Word- (formerly the Lectionary Class), meets in the Trinity Room. Participants can attend in person or by Zoom. Together we read scripture and apply its wisdom to our lives. We’d love for all interested in learning more about the Bible, one passage at a time, to join us. All our welcome! Contact person: Susan Holiday

Topical Discussions Fellowship- adult learners of all ages meet in the Fellowship Hall. With good coffee and fresh treats from the class members, we strive to discuss a variety of topics relevant to our religion in today’s society. Topics last year included: Immigration in the US, The Apostles’ Creed by Pastor Adam Hamilton, and Christmas in the Four Gospel Homes. We hope you will join us for fellowship and discussion. Contact: Dave Muegge

SALT - a casual class in a discussion format. Studies are chosen with a focus on material that can be engaged in with little preparation. We share in leading lessons based on participant comfort level. Come when you can, no experience required! SALT meets in Room 17. Contact: Amy Price

Four and More- this Bible Study has this name from meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays... presently by Zoom.
