Trinity Newsletter for March 23, 2023

From Pastor Chris

This Sunday, following morning worship, is our Annual Meeting of the Congregation. This is an important time in our life and ministry together as we review the year past and look forward to the work God is calling us to in the months to come. I hope you will make it a priority to attend this meeting, either in-person or online. All active members have received the meeting packet via email (or postal mail for those without email addresses on file).

Even if you won't be able to attend the meeting, I hope you will take some time in the coming days to review our 2022 Annual Report. Over the last year we have accomplished much as a church family, and you should be proud!

Thank you for being part of the Trinity family! If you would like to get together and chat about something in your life, or our common life together, please reach out.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Chris

NOTICE: Annual Congregational Meeting

The Session of Trinity Presbyterian Church has called for the Annual Meeting of the Congregation and the Corporation to take place immediately following the 11:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, March 26, 2023. Business to be conducted during this meeting shall be: (1) presentation of the 2022 Annual Report, which includes the 2023 Budget, (2) voting on one amendment to the Trinity bylaws, and (3) presentation of Pastor’s sabbatical plan.

The meeting will be a hybrid meeting, both in-person at the sanctuary of Trinity Presbyterian Church and via audio/video conference using the Zoom application.

The meeting packet with agenda and instructions for participating in the meeting will be distributed to all members of Trinity via email, or by postal mail if no email address is available, in the coming days. A link to the 2022 Annual Report will be distributed to all members the week before the meeting, and print copies will be available on request.

The proposed bylaws changes to be voted on are as follows:

Amend Section XIII of the Bylaws of Trinity to delete phased-in language increasing the number of Deacons.

Current language: XIII. Deacons

The congregation shall elect twelve (12) deacons divided into three equal classes, one class of whom shall be elected each year at a congregational meeting for a three-year term. During the 2022 calendar year the board of deacons shall comprise a minimum of 10 deacons and a maximum of 12. During the 2023 calendar year the board of deacons shall comprise a minimum of 11 deacons and a maximum of 12. One additional deacon shall be elected from the youth to serve an annual term. No deacon shall serve for consecutive terms, either full or partial, aggregating more than six years. A deacon having served a total of six years shall be ineligible for reelection to the board of deacons for a period of at least one year. The pastor shall be an advisory member of the board of deacons. A quorum for the board of deacons shall be the majority * of the members, including the moderator.

* A majority is defined as one half plus one. With 11 or 12 deacons, the quorum shall be 7. With 10 deacons, the quorum shall be 6.

A Note from Karen Cavicchia

After two years of pandemic delays, my own health scares, and all the planning and coordinating of two meaningful celebrations for family and loved ones in two different states, five months apart, here is the completed video of the Celebration of Life, Remembrance, and Gratitude for The Reverend Dr. Thomas H. Cavicchia at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Springfield, MO, October 15, 2022.

View the service here.

The video is 1 hour 38 minutes. The first 20 minutes include exquisite classical music played by Robert and Sharon Reed, Carla and Tim Wootton, followed by speakers The Reverend Christopher Miller (Minister at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Springfield, MO), Ms. Malinda Spencer (Executive Presbyter of John Calvin Presbytery), Thomas D. Cavicchia (son), Janine Cavicchia (daughter), and Robert Reed (friend).

Thank You from Ed and Linda Daniel

I’m feeling blessed with all the prayers, cards, flowers and meals during my time of limited activity. For those who are aware of Ed’s health issues and included him in prayers, thank you. We are blessed!

A Letter to Presbyterian Women

Dear members of Presbyterian Women,

I didn’t join them, you may say! Oh but you already are a member! If you are a Presbyterian and a woman, YOU are a member of Presbyterian Women!! You are already a part of a fellowship of like-minded women who are up to all kinds of good things!! You don’t have to belong to a circle (but you are always welcome to join in!) and you don’t have to attend our gatherings (but we do have food and fun). This is a great time to check us out because the national gathering of Presbyterian Women will be in St. Louis from August 8–11, 2024. People are already planning for-ROAD TRIP!

Here are some more upcoming events:

April 22- Willard-Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church- Spring Gathering Presbytery-wide

July- summer lunch TBD- Trinity PW

September 23 (tentative)- Ft. Scott Presbyterian Church-Fall Gathering Presbytery-wide

December 9- Christmas brunch-Trinity PW

August 8-10, 2024-Church wide gathering in St. Louis

Circles meet monthly, usually with a break for summer, using the Bible Study books from Horizons Magazine for a nine-month study. Trinity currently has 5 circles meeting at various times, but you can always form one of your own with a few friends if none of those times work for you. Or you can subscribe to Horizons and get a free Bible study book to study on your own (the magazine has helpful suggestions to go with the lessons). You can check out the magazine at: Horizons magazine. Check the newsletter for existing circle times. You are always welcome to join in anytime!

However you choose to engage with your sisters in Presbyterian Women, you are an important part of Presbyterian Women. If you would like to contribute to PW through our Trinity, group you can mail a check to our treasurer, Gail Tombleson at 2717 W. Trevor Trail, Ozark, MO 65721.

Best wishes,

Carol Minton, current Moderator, Trinity PW

Audio Visual Team Needs You

Hello, Friends! Have you been feeling like you want to share your time and talents with Trinity, but you aren't sure how? I have a suggestion! Join our Audio/Visual Team! Every Sunday, we need 2-3 volunteers to navigate the slides, sound, and live-streaming for our church family. It really isn't hard!

We are now setting up training and, if you're interested in helping you can shadow one of our current team members during a Sunday service to see if you think this is right for you. If you want more information, please contact me.

Would You Like to Join the Trinity Prayer Team?

I want to extend an invitation for you to go deeper into your connection with prayer and the Trinity family.

In the early days of the pandemic we formed the Trinity Prayer Team. This group doesn't meet in-person but, rather, agrees to set aside time most days to hold the Trinity family in prayer. Some pray in the morning, some at night. In addition to regular prayer for our church, this group also lifts up specific needs as we learn of them, holding in prayer those in our community who are healing or grieving or celebrating.

If you feel called to join this group, please give Pastor Chris a call or an email. We have daily prayer books available to help you in your prayer. If you have felt a desire to get more connected with Trinity, but have difficulty attending regular, in-person events, this might be a great fit for you. Whether you feel led to join our prayer team or not, please know how thankful I am that you are part of our church family!
