Newborns In Need Grant

The Mission and Public Witness Committee approved a Called to Care grant for Newborns in Need, which ensures that newborns have the needed essentials for the first few weeks of life. They distribute layettes, clothing, and necessary baby items to hospitals and children’s support organizations in southwest MO and northwest AR—some 80 in all.

A generous benefactor pays rent and utilities (1740 S. Glenstone #S) and there is zero overhead—everyone is a volunteer, including the Director. There is no paid staff. Trinity’s grant of $500 is for the purchase of batting used in making baby quilts.

Last year the agency served 10,178 newborns and provided 8,140 blankets, 1,782 50-piece layettes of essential items, and many other helpful items such as hand-sewn baby gowns, burp-cloth sets, handmade hats and toys, nursing cover-ups, etc. The total value of items delivered was $334,632, and volunteers logged 54,231 hours.

Bill Havens from Trinity volunteers at Newborns and his role is designing and cutting quilts. (Fabric is always welcome.) He will gladly tell anyone about the fabulous work of Newborns in Need.

Crosslines Food Drive Results for September

Here is the note that June, our church secretary, received from Ricky, who supervises the warehouse at Crosslines:

“Good morning, June. This month we have receive 253 (lbs.) in nonperishables and 113 in toiletries. You all, and Pathways UMC, are the most consistent in food donations as (an) organization. Thanks.”

Get to Know the Afghan Refugees

Hello, Trinity!

I am excited for the picnic on Sunday, where you can greet our Afghan friends. They are excited as well. Mike Simpson and Kate Companik are preparing 2 Afghan dishes that will be most of their meal.

All of our refugees except Ali, one of our newest refugees, are employed in at least one location. I am confident he will be working soon as he is certainly motivated, even though he speaks no English.

Two current needs are a used laptop for Adnan, who is a high school senior this year,

and we are still looking for a washer and dryer.

Thank you all for the TVs that help with understanding English and colloquialisms.

Fahim likes his TV but loves his iron and ironing board!

The CSG is excited to welcome 4 new members who will be a great help with transportation: Bill and Brenda Havens, Patty Dunn, and David Bohnenkamper. Cletus Johnson is definitely interested, but he has been blessed recently with much more work than usual.

I continue to be in awe of your willingness to show your love and care for these young men. They have been through unspeakable things but continue to work hard and plan for the future. Please pray for their safety and wellbeing and that of their families, and may God continue to bless each of you.

Peace,

Martha Sparrow, leader, Trinity Team CSG

Could You Invest 10 Minutes to Help Someone New Learn About Trinity?

Did you know that over 90% of people who are looking for a new church use online tools to help them decide which churches to visit? And did you know that the online reviews highlighted by popular online map programs are some of the most impactful things people consider before visiting a church? It's true!

While a personal invitation to attend a worship service or church event is still, far and away, the #1 way to help people get involved at Trinity, sharing your positive experiences of our church family through online reviews is another way you can help someone new discover Trinity. If you have a few minutes, your honest, detailed review of our church family can help someone make the decision to visit.

The two most helpful places to share your review are Yelp (the reviews published on Apple Maps / iPhone) and Google (the reviews published on Google Maps / Android); there are links below to our profile on each site.

The most helpful reviews are those that talk about your personal experience, highlighting something about our church family you find especially positive or unique. Reviews don't have to be long, just a single paragraph can make a huge difference. While we encourage total honesty, we would ask that if you have specific concerns you share them with church leadership so we may address them.
