Trinity Newsletter for October 13, 2022
From Pastor Chris
In just over three weeks, on Saturday, November 5, Trinity will be hosting the quarterly meeting of John Calvin Presbytery. Representatives of the nearly four-dozen congregations in our region will gather here for worship, study, and the work of the church. You are invited to take part in this important event; here are three ways:
1 - Pray. Pray for this gathering of our region of the PC(USA), that God will guide our worship, study, and work. Pray that all we discuss and decide will advance the mission of Christ in this part of the world. Pray that Trinity can extend grace and welcome to each guest to our facility.
2 - Come and See. If you haven't ever attended a presbytery meeting before, or if it has been a while, consider coming to the meeting and seeing what takes place. Come for worship and communion, come for the educational time, and come for the business meeting. Each part of the day matters in its own way!
3 - Volunteer. We will need several sets of volunteers to help make the day run smoothly, from greeters to help guests find their way, to people to serve lunch. The next few Sundays there will be volunteer signup sheets available at church, so if you can spare a couple hours, please be sure to volunteer!
It is easy for us to narrow our focus of what "being the church" means to simply what takes place in our own congregation. Being part of the church of Jesus, however, is about connection with people of faith near and far. Hosting presbytery is one way we make visible that commitment to connection. However you take part, through prayer, by coming and seeing, or by volunteering, thank you for supporting our siblings in faith throughout John Calvin Presbytery!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Chris
Kids Friday Night Fun Night

Summary of the Church Picnic
The Welcome and Fellowship Committee hosted a successful Church Picnic at the Northwoods Pavilion at Lake Springfield on September 25. 72 people attended. Trinity provided the fried chicken and the congregation was asked to bring a side dish of vegetable, salad or dessert. A group of people prepared appropriate halal food for our 7 Afghan guests.
We were pleased with the event. People seemed happy just to visit with each other, and they pitched in to help serve and clean up.
Sweater Drive
Thank you Trinity members for making the Mr. Rogers’ Sweater Drive a success. We collected over 100 sweaters and donated them to The Gathering Friends, a local agency that helps the unsheltered homeless in our community. They were delivered on Tuesday, October 10. The sweaters were welcomed due to upcoming cooler weather. Thank you, Trinity.
Coffee Service Returns with Lemonade and Water
Brentwood will be preparing Coffee, lemonade and ice water for both services, topping off the liquids as they depart.
Trinity's part here will be emptying and rinsing the hotpots, and liquid dispensers, and putting things away. We hope to have a list of volunteers who will sign up for this service. Contact Randy Hoops or Sara Muegge to volunteer.
Thanks from Linda Daniel
On August 6 I took an unexpected detour from my path when I fractured my neck. I have not walked this journey without Trinity’s congregation presence. Almost immediately, Pastor Chris and Deacon Brenda Havens alerted Trinity’s prayer warriors. Following prayers came food, cards, and flowers.
I’m progressing faster than expected. For that, I sincerely thank Trinity’s Prayer Warriors. We appreciate every act of compassion on our behalf.
