Trinity Newsletter for October 27, 2022
From Pastor Chris
Are you are interested in learning more about serving as an usher or liturgist on Sunday mornings, or do you currently serve in one of these roles? If so, please plan to join me tonight for our Worship Volunteer Training. This training will help make sure all our volunteers feel prepared for their role. Since many of our volunteers serve as both ushers and liturgists, we are combining the training into one to limit the number of sessions we ask you to attend. No RSVP is needed, simply come to the Sanctuary:
TODAY - Thursday, October 27 - 5:00 - 6:15 PM
By now you have, hopefully, received your 2023 Pledge Campaign packet in the mail. Over the coming weeks, I hope you will review the packet and prayerfully consider your pledge of support to Trinity for the coming year.
You can make your pledge online and learn more about our 2023 campaign right here: https://trinityspringfieldpcusa.org/pledge
I am delighted you are part of the Trinity family. If you would ever like to get together for coffee or lunch or just to chat, please let me know!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Chris

In the next few weeks, you will be introduced to some of these candidates.
They were each asked to respond to these questions: Where are you from? What brought you to Trinity? How are you involved at Trinity? What are your hopes for Trinity?
BRENDA SNEED
I grew up in Springfield and left for college and jobs. Returned to Springfield in 1989 to teach. I was a member at First and Calvary and came over to Trinity when we reorganized. I currently serve as an usher and liturgist. I have been a deacon. I would hope we continue to keep up our missions work and get more young families at our church.
MIKE WHITE
I was born and raised in Springfield. In fact, Nancy and I now live about six blocks from the first house I called home. I am a product of Springfield Public Schools and a proud graduate from Drury University. I grew up in the Episcopal Church and, after marrying Nancy, found a church home comfortable to both of us at First and Calvary. That lasted until the great schism! We joined the other “refugees” in attending afternoon services at Westminster and, when a new church was organized under Pastor Jane’s leadership, I was flattered to be chosen an Elder and a Trustee. As an Elder, I served on the Finance and Christian Education committees until stepping down in 2019. I have also enjoyed filling the role of Liturgist through the years. Finally, my hope for Trinity is that our church continues to find opportunities to nurture our congregation and grow in our service to the Springfield community.
DAPHNE ANDERSON
Nurturing parents and grandparents in southwest Louisiana and central Texas first shaped my faith. During college my sister and brother-in-law brought me in to the Presbyterian fold. When Trinity was in its formative days in 2015 I wanted to be part of this inclusive, caring community honoring our PCUSA connectional heritage. My hope is that we will continue to flourish by loving God and loving our neighbors as ourselves. As part of the Trinity family I am involved in Presbyterian Women, my Sunday school class, knitting group, prayer chain, and previously as adult volunteer in confirmation class.
All Saints' Remembrance
We are preparing for our annual All Saints' remembrance, which will take place during worship on Sunday, November 6. During this remembrance we will read aloud the names of those from our congregation who have entered the Church Triumphant this past year. If there is someone from your own life you would like included in this time of remembrance, please send their name to Kristin Butler for inclusion in the service.
New Meeting Times for Youth Group
Youth group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month for lunch and lessons after church. Sydney and Nissa intend to have a safe space for open conversation in hopes of supporting independent thought while offering a faith-based perspective. We hope to partner with Westminster's youth group for mission opportunities. Contact: Nissa Krier
Chiming In
Trinity’s music program now includes a three-octave set of mellow, resonant CHOIR CHIMES! The instruments were purchased in loving memory of our friend Liz Sweet, and may be played by children, youth and adults.
To learn how you can be part of a choir chimes ensemble, contact Carla Wootton.
Help Trinity Welcome John Calvin Presbytery!
On Saturday, November 5, Trinity will be hosting the quarterly meeting of John Calvin Presbytery. Representatives of the nearly four-dozen congregations in our region will gather here for worship, study, and the work of the church. You are invited to take part in this important event; here are three ways:
Pray. Pray for this gathering of our region of the PC(USA), that God will guide our worship, study, and work. Pray that all we discuss and decide would advance the mission of Christ in this part of the world. Pray that Trinity can extend grace and welcome to each guest to our facility.
Come and See. If you haven't ever attended a presbytery meeting before, or if it has been a while, consider coming to the meeting and seeing what takes place. Come for worship and communion, come for the educational time, and come for the business meeting. Each part of the day matters in its own way!
Volunteer. We will need several sets of volunteers to help make the day run smoothly, from greeters to help guests find their way to people to serve lunch. The next two Sundays there will be volunteer signup sheets available at church, so if you can spare a couple hours, please be sure to volunteer!
It is easy for us to narrow our focus of what "being the church" means to simply what takes place in our own congregation. Being part of the church of Jesus, however, is about connection with people of faith near and far. Hosting presbytery is one way we make visible that commitment to connection. However you take part, through prayer, by coming and seeing, or by volunteering, thank you for supporting our siblings in faith throughout John Calvin Presbytery!
Embracing Vitality
It's that time of year when each of us is asked to make a financial commitment to the vitality of Trinity.
