Trinity Newsletter for November 10, 2022

From Pastor Chris

The next time you come to the Trinity entrance at church you will notice a big change! Thanks in large part to our very successful garage sale (Thanks, Sarah Muegge!) Trinity and Brentwood are upgrading the West / Trinity entrance to be fully ADA compliant and accessible. This week, a new door is being installed that will have a push-button opener to allow those with mobility issues to access the building more easily.

As with any upgrade project there may be unexpected delays, so thank you in advance for your patience as we get used to this new entrance.

I am delighted you are part of the Trinity family. If you would ever like to get together for coffee or lunch or just to chat, please let me know!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Chris

Trinity/Brentwood Handbell Choir!

If you have ever been interested in ringing handbells, now is the time! We are forming a joint handbell choir with our friends from Brentwood. There is a sign-up sheet at church, but you can also contact Carla Wootton at carlaw@trinityspringfieldpcusa.org if you haven't signed up at church. Carla will be emailing folks in the next week or so about the best time to rehearse, etc. This can be all ages (middle school and older), and although it is helpful if you read music, we will teach you the basics if you can't. Illace Mears will also be helping direct our joint bell choir, so you know we're going to have fun when Ilace is there! Contact Carla for more information!

Brenda Sneed Ansley Arquitt

In the next few weeks, you will be introduced you to some of these candidates.

They were each asked to respond to these questions: Where are you from? What brought you to Trinity? How are you involved at Trinity? What are your hopes for Trinity?

Betty Forrester

My childhood was in Ava, my teen years in Ozark, Missouri. We have lived in Springfield over 50 years. When Covenant Presbyterian went to ECO, we joined Trinity to stay with the Presbyterian Church USA. We have loved ones who are gay, so we believe they are accepted as they are. I have served as a Deacon at Trinity and I am a member of Rebecca Circle. My hope for Trinity is that we continue to serve the community needs as well as those of the larger Church.

Mike Simpson

Springfield has been my home since 1982. After retiring from the National Park Service, Jeanne Ann and I returned home to take care of her mom, Joyce Forkner, and establish a home base for us. Trinity has roots from Covenant, Southminster, and First and Calvary congregations, but also the backing of PCUSA; which makes it a nice mix of community, mission, and outreach. I’ve been with the Community Service Group for Afghan resettlement for a year now, and plan to continue. My hopes for Trinity are generational growth, active partnership in the community and ministerial alliances and continual pursuit of trying to “walk the walk”.

Embracing Vitality

It's that time of year when each of us is asked to make a financial commitment to the vitality of Trinity.

Adult Class offerings:

Studying the Word- (formerly the Lectionary Class), meets in the Trinity Room. Participants can attend in person or by Zoom. Together we read scripture and apply its wisdom to our lives. We’d love for all interested in learning more about the Bible, one passage at a time, to join us. All our welcome! Contact person: Susan Holiday

Topical Discussions Fellowship- adult learners of all ages meet in the Fellowship Hall. With good coffee and fresh treats from the class members, we strive to discuss a variety of topics relevant to our religion in today’s society. Topics last year included: Immigration in the US, The Apostles’ Creed by Pastor Adam Hamilton, and Christmas in the Four Gospel Homes. We hope you will join us for fellowship and discussion. Contact: Dave Muegge

SALT - a casual class in a discussion format. Studies are chosen with a focus on material that can be engaged in with little preparation. We share in leading lessons based on participant comfort level. Come when you can, no experience required! SALT meets in Room 17. Contact: Amy Price

Four and More- this Bible Study has this name from meeting at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays... presently by Zoom.
