Extended Worship - June 28, 2020

Today we have a wonderful worship service for you.  I'm delighted to welcome the Rev. Brian Ellison, Stated Clerk of the Synod of Mid-America, as our guest preacher.  His sermon is powerful, challenging, and hope-filled.  We also have beautiful music (both the anthem and offertory this week are just amazing), and Chloe and Carson Wootton help lead us in scripture today.  As usual there are other resources for our journey this week; I especially want to highlight an article linked in the "Resources for Families" section: it's a great discussion from PBS on how to talk honestly with children about racism.  Whether or not you have younger kids in your life, it's worth a read.

I also want to remind you that our next donation drive to help care for our homeless neighbors is coming TOMORROW, Monday on June 29 from 10am - 1pm and 3:30pm - 6:30pm!  We need your help to prepare 300 meal kits for those currently sheltering in hotels.  Learn more here.

Thank you for being part of the Trinity family; if there are ways that Trinity and I can be a good support to you this week please don't hesitate to reach out.

Music for Social Distancing
Each week our staff will be sharing some music that is bringing them joy.  Some may relate to the sermon, others are just music for the times.  You can click herefor the full playlist.  Here are this week's picks:

This week's songs from Chris:

  • Holy Is The Lord by Andrew Peterson - This is a repeat song for me, but it was written to go with the scripture Brian is talking about in his sermon today, so I couldn't not include it.  If you haven't listened to this moving reflection on God's holiness, I encourage you to do so today.

  • Sing Yer Love by Mike Crawford - The central image of singing our love to one another has been speaking to me this week; I need to be reminded of love and beauty.  This song never fails to make me smile.

  • Nada te Turbe from Taizé - The repetition of the refrain as a prayer is central to the meditative worship of the Taizé monastery. In this song the refrain simply affirms that "Nothing can Trouble."

This week's song from Carla:

  • Carla wants to encourage everyone to watch the anthem during worship today.
