A Prayer for Earth Day
Today is Earth Day and I would ask you to take a moment today to pray for our planet. We are called by God to be stewards of Earth, to care for God's creation with a mind for not only our wants and needs but those of future generations as well. I would be so bold as to say we are to love God's creation the way God loves the creation.
At some point today would you please take a moment to offer a prayer for our planet; you might pray "thank you" for the beauty of the earth, or "help me" to understand how we can better care for God's creation, or simply "wow" at the majesty of God's creation. If you need an idea, I would offer this prayer, which comes from the church in Samoa:
Almighty God, your word of creation
caused the water to be filled
with many kinds of living beings
and the air to be filled with birds.
We rejoice in the richness of your creation,
and we pray for your wisdom
for all who live on this earth,
that we may wisely manage and not destroy what you have made
for us and for our descendants.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Thank you for your prayers today, and every day.
I would also share a suggestion from Trinity member George Arquitt. Tonight at 7pm PBS is presenting a one hour documentary with Sir David Attenborough entitled Climate Change: The Facts. George shared with me that he watched the documentary on a flight last September and thinks it is one of the best films on the topic he has seen. It is airing tonight at 7pm on PBS / Ozarks Public Television, which is broadcast channel 21.1 in Springfield.
However you celebrate Earth Day today, know that I am thankful for you.
Wishing you Peace,
Pastor Chris
