Extended Worship - November 1, 2020 - All Saints’ Day

Nov 1 2020 Worship Email.png

Today we mark All Saints' Day.  It's a time in the church year when we give thanks for the great cloud of witnesses who surround us in our journey of faith. During worship we will have a few moments to remember those in our congregation who have died this year, as well as all of those whose lives have impacted our own.  We also have some beautiful music, including a wonderful offertory featuring our youth.  Also remember, today is a Communion Sunday, so if you wish to partake in the Lord's Supper make sure to have bread and cup handy.

November is Pledge Month at Trinity.  Throughout the month we will be hearing from Trinity members about our Pledge Campaign and why they pledge.  Today during worship Patty Dunn shares a bit of her story.  Pledge packets will be going in the mail this week with more information, plus you can learn more about our pledge campaign, and make your pledge online, right here: https://trinityspringfieldpcusa.org/pledge

Finally, please know that this Tuesday (Nov 3) I will be serving as an Election Judge for Greene County.  This means I will not be in the office or able to respond to messages that day.  If you have an urgent pastoral issue, please contact the church office or Deacon Sharon Marsh.  Of course, please make sure to vote if you haven't already.

Thank you for being part of the Trinity family.  If there are ways I can be a support to you this week, please reach out.

Music for Social Distancing
Each week our staff will be sharing some music that is bringing them joy.  Some may relate to the sermon, others are just music for the times.  You can click here for the full playlist.  Here are this week's picks:

This week's songs from Chris:

  • For All The Saints - The classic hymn of thanksgiving for all those who have walked the road of faith before us.

  • God of My Fathers by Andrew Peterson - This has been a long time favorite song of mine. I find it especially poignant this weekend as we think both about the saints of our faith, but also the promise of our nation.

  • Requiem for the Living by Dan Forrest - A requiem is usually a musical work focused on remembrance of the dead; this powerful work by Dan Forrest is as much about strength for those of us who remain.  This is a longer work (40 minutes) - maybe a balm for your soul in the coming days of waiting and watching in our nation.

  • This Is My Song / Finlandia by Jean Sibelius - Part of a larger composition, the hymn-tune FINLANDIA has become a well-loved melody in the church. This lyrical setting gives thanks for our nation and all nations.  It is also the tune for "Be Still, My Soul" among other reflective hymns.
