Trinity Weekly Connections - November 2, 2020
There is no doubt that whatever the coming days may bring, it will be of great importance for our nation. We also remember this truth: whatever may come, our hope is found not in the powers of this world, but in Jesus Christ. We should engage in our civic duty with Christian hope.
I will share the same reminders with you today that I shared in the newsletter last week:
Please Vote. If you haven't already, make a plan to vote tomorrow (Nov 3). The polls are open from 6:00am to 7:00pm.
Please be aware of Social Media. There is already a fairly steady stream of misleading information from a variety of sources being shared via social media of all kinds. This is likely to get worse in the days to come, especially if the results take several days to become clear (which is very likely). Pay particular attention to posts that rouse a strong emotional reaction from you - if it makes you angry, think twice (or three times) before assuming it is true or sharing it with others. Above all, remember that the words and posts you share on social media are part of our Christian witness - use them to best reflect the Kingdom of Christ.
Please pray. The next few days and weeks in our common life are likely to be stressful. Set aside time each day to be present with, and listen to, our Creator and source of true hope. Lift up our nation, pray for peace and justice and respect. Pray for election workers, voters, and those who will help us navigate these tense times while making sure all votes are counted and voices heard.
I'm glad you're part of the Trinity family; if I can be a support to you please reach out. I'd be delighted to spend some time in conversation.
Here are some other ways you can connect with your Trinity family this week:
Social Media Scripture
Throughout the week I'll be sharing, via our social media channels, a verse or two of scripture from the daily lectionary along with a one or two sentence reflection. These aren't sermons, just a quick mid-day reflection on God's Word. I hope you'll hop on Facebook, Twitter (@trinitysgfpcusa), or Instagram(@trinitysgfpcusa) and check out the posts, join the conversation, and share with your friends and family.
No Innocent Bystanders Book Study
If you haven't yet picked up your complimentary copy of No Innocent Bystanders, don't worry! We still have plenty of copies for you. Just reply to this email and let me know when you'd like to come by and pick up your copy. We can also arrange to have a volunteer drop off a book at your home. We want EVERYONE to be able to take part, so let us know how we can help make it happen!
We have three weekly gatherings where we will be learning together; two in-person and one via Zoom. Our in-person gatherings are Wednesdays at 10am and 2pm through Nov 18. Please note that for this week only our 2pm Wednesday gathering is not taking place due to a Synod event. Our Zoom discussion group takes place on Thursdays at 6pm through Nov 19. No RSVP is needed, simply join the call at 6pm:
