Extended Worship: Pentecost - May 31, 2020

May 31 2020 Worship Email.png

Happy Pentecost!  Today we celebrate that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to do the work of Christ's Kingdom.  This is also usually the Sunday when we take our "Trinity Family Photo" with us all wearing red, so later today on our social media channels there will be an invitation to share a photo of your Pentecost red; hop on to Facebook or Twitter to reply!  Also, if you haven't taken a moment to review our Framework for Pandemic Response I would encourage you to do so.  This will give you some good perspective on how our Trinity leadership is planning for the coming months.

I want to send a special thank you to all the folks, young and old, who helped make today's service possible.  You are in for a treat today!  We have a special greeting from our Trinity kids and youth (thank you Katherine Arquitt for putting it together!), some beautiful special music, some awesome co-liturgists, and a lot of Trinity folks sharing where they see the Spirit moving at Trinity.  If there are ways Trinity or I can be a good support to you, please reach out!

Music for Social Distancing
Each week our staff will be sharing some music that is bringing them joy.  Some may relate to the sermon, others are just music for the times.  You can click here for the full playlist.  Here are this week's picks:

This week's songs from Chris:

  • Lord, Send Your Spirit by The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir - When I think of Pentecost anthems, this is it.  I've sung it with at least three choirs (see my last link for more on that), and I'm proud of each version.  But, none compare to the singular joy in this recording.  Watch it for the director if nothing else!

  • I Will Be Undignified by Rend Collective - This song is an important reminder to me: the Spirit means I can be undignified in my praise of God. Even if this isn't your normal style of music, I encourage you to hold on for the dancing...it's worth it!

  • Holy Spirit by The Princeton Chapel Choir - Ok, so this is a bit different. This isn't a YouTube video, but a link to my personal website.  It's a story from my last year at Princeton about my last choir concert (I sang baritone).  If you scroll down to the third and fourth songs from the bottom, you will find two picks for this week: "Holy Spirit" and another rendition of "Lord, Send Your Spirit."  Of course, I love the rest of the songs too...
