Easter Weekend Supply Drive

The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed many in our community into a season of unprecedented financial hardship. This has meant unprecedented demand at the front line agencies who help those most in need.  We have learned of an emergent need at our partner agency Crosslines.  In March, Crosslines saw a 73% increase in individuals accessing their services for emergency food aid, and that will almost certainly increase in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, Crosslines is experiencing supply shortages just when assistance is needed most.  The combination of increased demand, plus a drying up of their usual donations (since churches aren’t meeting, they aren’t gathering food), plus supply chain problems (a lot of the items they need they can’t get from their suppliers in the needed quantity), had led to a challenging situation.

Thankfully, we can help!

I want to ask you to join me in a supply drive to support Crosslines this Easter weekend.  Crosslines has provided us a list of the items they most need to restock their shelves for the next week.  If you are making your weekly shopping run, or clearing out your pantry, if you could pick up an item or three that would be fantastic.

Here is how it will work:

  • Gather items from the list below.

  • PLEASE check expiration dates; if it is expired do not donate it.  This just wastes valuable time for Crosslines staff and volunteers.

  • Once you have gathered your supplies, bring them to the church on Monday, April 13 from 10am to 1pm.

  • Come to the West / Trinity entrance and pull up to the covered entrance.  I will meet you at your car to bring your donation inside.  Please wait in your car until the person ahead of you has unloaded.

  • We will then make one delivery to Crosslines.

  • NOTE: If you are unable to deliver your donation to church from 10-1 on Monday please contact Penni Groves or Sharon Marsh; one of our volunteer team would be happy to pick up your donation from your home.

Here are the items most in need this week:

  • Peanut Butter

  • Canned Veggies & Fruit

  • Canned Tuna

  • Canned Soup

  • Boxed Items (esp Cereal and Mac & Cheese)

  • Spices (esp Salt & Pepper)

  • Aluminum Foil

  • Plastic Wrap

  • Sandwich Bags

  • Pet Food

What if I can't make it to the store this weekend?

No worries!  There will be more opportunities in the weeks to come. Additionally, financial assistance is always helpful.  You can make a gift right now via our church website: https://trinityspringfieldpcusa.org/give (there is also information there on how/where to mail a check if you prefer that route).  Gifts designated "COVID-19 Relief" will go to support local and immediate needs for relief.

Thank you!

I am proud to be part of a church family that steps up to help.  Thank you in advance for helping care for those in our community who are most in need right now by bringing supplies to church on Monday, making a financial gift, or lifting up our community in prayer -- or all three!

Wishing you Peace,
Pastor Chris
