Good Friday Extended Worship

Today, on Good Friday, we reflect on the paradox that salvation comes through the suffering and death of Jesus on the Cross.  At the center of our reflection stands scripture; the narrative of the Passion of Christ.  While I have several resources for you today, I would give you this encouragement: if you do one thing today, read the story.  Grab your bible, set aside some time, and read John 18:1-19:42.  The rest of what I have today is for after you read the story.

Family Activity
Whether you have kids at home or not, this is a wonderful activity to do with your family (or on your own) to reflect on the story of Good Friday.  Thanks to the Presbyterian Outlook for this resource!

Music
I've got two bits of music that have been carrying me along the past few days, and I hope they bring you some of the peace they have brought me.  The first is a new song by the amazing JJ Heller.  Entitled You Already Know, she wrote it in response to everything that is going on in our world with the coronavirus pandemic and the anxiety so many of us are feeling.

The second is a playlist of five songs by Andrew Peterson.  Written specifically for Good Friday, these five songs are rooted in the story in John, and they make up his EP Resurrection Letters: Prologue.  I especially find the first and last tracks meaningful.

Article for Reflection
Finally, I'd like to share with you an article from M. Craig Barnes, President at Princeton Theological Seminary.  Entitled From Humility to Humility: The Spirituality of Quarantine, it is a moving reflection on a "spirituality of staying home."  For those of us who find joy in serving others we can sometimes feel like we aren't doing it right if we are staying home.

Thank you for being part of the Trinity family.  If I can be a support to you today please don't hesitate to reach out.

Wishing you Peace,
Pastor Chris

PS - We will be celebrating Communion together during our Easter Extended Worship.  If you want to participate make sure you have some bread and juice, wine, or water - whatever you have on hand is fine.
